Roll Down  -  Four Coins  -  Split Method

(202k)

Description The full Roll Down with 4 coins.
Start Start with a stack of four coins held stackwise between the thumb and middle fingers, with the index and ring fingers supporting the stack. Make sure that the coins are against the second phalanx of the middle finger. The coins should initially be held so that the thumb can be removed without the coins falling. Hold the hand so that the fingers are parallel to the ground.
Directions
  1. Perform a Middle Split so that you finish with two coins between the middle and index fingers and two coins between the middle and ring fingers.
  2. Move the thumb and pinkie close to the middle finger.
  3. Now and perform a simultaneous Index Split and Ring Split by pulling up with the thumb and down with the pinkie finger.
  4. At this point you should have one coin between the thumb and index finger, one coin between the index and middle fingers, one coin between the middle and ring fingers and the final coin between the ring and pinkie fingers.
  5. Reverse the moves to get back to the original position.
Comments
I find the difficult part of this trick is holding one (or more) coins between the ring and pinkie fingers. To make it slightly easier adjust the starting position so that the coins naturally finish in a comfortable position between the ring and pinkie fingers. For me the starting position is at the middle of the second phalanx of the middle finger.
Variations
There are several other methods for performing the split version of the Roll Down but this is the method I have found works best for me.

Rather than finish the trick with the coins held on the second phalanx you can do it so that you finish with the coins held right out at the fingertips. This is much harder as you have to roll one coin with the nail of the pinkie finger.

When performing this trick a nice effect is achieved as follows. Start with the stack of coins held in a hand, fingers pointing towards the audience. Drop the hand down so that the fingers point to the ground. Perform the Roll Down during this dropping motion and bring the hand back to the start position when the Roll Down is complete.
